H\u00e4ndel\u00f6 Eco Industrial Park is based on the concept of exploiting synergies between energy companies and the processing industry. There is a cluster of industries here that use each other\u2019s by-products and residual products as raw materials. Residual products and waste drive the combined heat and power plant. Residual steam from the combined heat and power plant is used in the manufacture of ethanol and feed. The carbon dioxide formed during production is converted into carbonic acid and used in the food industry. Residual products from the production of ethanol and feed are converted into biogas and fertiliser. Although the existing park has come a long way, the development opportunities are great, and the partners want use the project to attract more environmental companies to H\u00e4ndel\u00f6, which is showing the way in what can be achieved in the growing bio-economy. The project goal is to develop Handel Eco Industrial Park’s (HEIP) operations and to package and disseminate the experiences and knowledge built up around industrial and urban symbiosis (IUS) so that it can support other companies in Eastern Central Sweden that intend to resource and energy efficient their operations.<\/p>\n
